Language Support at PIS
At Premium International School (PIS), language is not only a medium of instruction—it is a gateway to academic achievement, cultural appreciation, and global citizenship. Recognizing the linguistic diversity of our student body, PIS is committed to supporting students who require additional help in English and Arabic through a dedicated, inclusive, and data-driven language support framework.
English Language Support (ELS)
English is the primary medium of instruction at PIS, and we ensure that all students, regardless of their starting proficiency, are empowered to succeed academically and socially. Our English Language Support program identifies students who need additional language acquisition support and provides structured, tiered intervention in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This support is tailored through pull-out, push-in, and co-teaching models to meet students where they are in their language development.
Specialized ELS educators work closely with classroom teachers to align instruction with grade-level expectations while scaffolding content in a way that is accessible and meaningful. Progress is regularly monitored using internal benchmarks and language proficiency assessments to inform individualized instruction plans.
Arabic Language Support
Aligned with ADEK guidelines and the UAE’s national vision, Arabic is taught to both native and non-native speakers with sensitivity to student background and proficiency. For non-native speakers, PIS offers a leveled Arabic support pathway focused on developing practical communication and literacy skills while fostering an appreciation for the Arabic language and Emirati culture.
Native speakers are provided with differentiated instruction and enrichment activities that aim to deepen their linguistic proficiency and enhance their engagement with classical and modern Arabic literature.
Multilingualism and Identity
We believe that maintaining and developing a student’s home language is essential for cognitive growth and cultural identity. While English and Arabic are prioritized, PIS celebrates linguistic diversity and encourages families to support native language use at home, fostering biliteracy and multilingual competence.
Integration and Support Structures
All language support services at PIS are fully integrated into the academic curriculum and aligned with the ADEK Inclusion Policy. Our goal is to enable every learner—regardless of their linguistic background—to fully access and engage with all areas of learning.
Language support is also coordinated with our Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and wellbeing teams to ensure students receive holistic support. Where necessary, the school partners with external language specialists and centers to provide intensive interventions, ensuring continuity of support at school and home.
